FBI Special Agent in Charge, Weysan Dun, Springfield Division, announced that on 04/18/2007 a bank robbery occurred at the Soy Capital Bank located at 1501 E. Eldorado Street in Decatur, Illinois. This robbery in being investigated jointly by the FBI and Decatur Police Department with the assistance of the Illinois State Police. At approximately 8:50 A.M., three subjects armed with handguns, entered the bank and took an undetermined amount of cash. Shots were fired by the subjects while inside the bank, however, no one was injured. The suspects fled in a vehicle which was located by the Decatur Police Department and subsequently stopped. Immediately prior to the traffic stop, one suspect fled from the vehicle and is still at large. During the traffic stop the remaining two suspects fled on foot armed with handguns. A shooting then occurred between the officers and one of the armed suspects which resulted in the suspect’s death. No law enforcement officers were injured. The third suspect, Steven Johnson, age 48 of Decatur, Illinois, was arrested by the Decatur Police shortly thereafter. Surveillance cameras captured the at-large suspect. Law enforcement officers are requesting the public’s help in identifying and locating this suspect. Members of the public are being asked to contact the Decatur Police Department at (217) 424-2711 or 2734 with any information which may assist in the apprehension of the remaining suspect. The public is further reminded that this person should be considered armed and dangerous. Federal Bank Robbery charges are expected to be filed by criminal complaint against Steven Johnson in United States Federal Court tomorrow. Members of the public are reminded that a criminal complaint is only an accusation and that all defendants are presumed to be innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
