Godfrey Man Pleads Guilty to Tax Evasion
A. Courtney Cox, United States Attorney for the Southern District of Illinois, announced today
that on October 27, 2009, JEFFREY HEINTZ, age 56, of Godfrey, Illinois, pled guilty in federal district
court, East St. Louis, to a one-count Information charging him with Tax Evasion. Sentencing has been
scheduled for March 23, 2010. The maximum penalties that can be imposed for this violation are five
years’ imprisonment, a $250,000 fine, or both, three years’ supervised release, and a $100 special assessment.
According to documents filed with the court, HEINTZ had income of more than $1.5 million in tax year
2003, on which he paid insufficient income taxes. As part of a plea agreement filed with the court,
HEINTZ has agreed to pay $49,451 in restitution to the Internal Revenue Service for unpaid taxes.
The case was investigated by agents of the Internal Revenue Service and the Federal Bureau of
Investigation. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Stephen B. Clark.
