INDIANA RESIDENT SENTENCED
FOR ROLE IN ARMED BANK ROBBERY
A. Courtney Cox, United States Attorney for the Southern District of Illinois, announced
today that on March 27, 2009, JOHN D. BROWN, age 65, of Evansville, Indiana, was sentenced in
United States District Court in Benton, Illinois. BROWN, who had previously entered a guilty plea to
one count of aiding and abetting armed bank robbery, was sentenced to 150 months’ imprisonment and
3 years’ supervised release. BROWN was also ordered to pay a $100 special assessment and restitution
in the amount of $28,380.
The evidence at BROWN’s plea and sentencing established that, on July 20, 2006, BROWN
and two co-defendants committed an armed robbery at the First Neighbor Bank in Casey, Illinois. The
co-defendants have previously been sentenced to prison terms of 499 months and 462 months,
respectively, for their roles in this and another armed bank robbery.
The investigation was conducted by the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, Murphysboro
Police Department, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Casey Police Department, Clark County Sheriff’s
Office, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, and the United States Marshals Service
pursuant to their participation in the Project Safe Neighborhoods Initiative. The Owensboro, Kentucky,
Police Department, and McCracken County Sheriff’s Department also participated in the investigation.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorneys Amanda A. Robertson and
