FORMER MILITARY CONTRACTOR RECEIVES 45 YEAR SENTENCE FOR CHILD SEX OFFENSE

Randy G. Massey, United States Attorney for the Southern District of Illinois, announced today that on August 13, 2007, CASEY J. CARSON, age 27, of Dellory, Ohio, and Fairview Heights, Illinois, received a sentence of 45 years’ imprisonment following his conviction for Conspiracy to Transport a Child in Interstate Commerce for Illegal Sexual Activity and Traveling in Interstate Commerce for the Purpose of Engaging in Illicit Sexual Conduct with a Child.

The indictment to which CARSON pleaded guilty alleged that he and his co-conspirator brought a child under the age of 13 years over state lines into the Southern District of Illinois on two occasions during the time period of August 2005 and March 2006 so that CARSON and the coconspirator could engage in sexual conduct with the minor. The indictment alleged that CARSON took photographs of the sexual conduct between the minor child and his co-conspirator.

CARSON pleaded guilty to the charges on February 1, 2007, pursuant to a factual stipulation which is filed under seal pursuant to federal laws protecting the privacy of child victims. CARSON has been in federal custody since September 28, 2006, when he was arrested at the Detroit International Airport. At the time of his arrest, CARSON was employed as a military contractor and was on a home visit from Kuwait.

Following release from imprisonment, CARSON will be on supervised release for the remainder of his life.

The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation with the assistance of the United States Air Force Office of Special Investigations, Scott Air Force Base, and the 280th Military Police Detachment, Criminal Investigative Division (CID), United States Army, Camp Arifjan, Kuwait. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Suzanne M. Garrison.
