OLNEY MAN SENTENCED FOR CHILD PORNOGRAPHY AND OBSTRUCTION OFFENSES

Randy G. Massey, Acting United States Attorney for the Southern District of Illinois, announced today that on May 3, 2006, RYAN WILLIAM McDONALD, age 26 of Olney, Illinois, was sentenced in the United States District Court in Benton, Illinois.  McDONALD was sentenced to 108 months' imprisonment, was fined $750, and was placed on 3 years' supervised release.

McDONALD had previously pleaded guilty to a four-count federal superseding indictment.  Count 1 charged that on January 27, 2002, in Richland County, McDONALD received child pornography that had been mailed, or shipped or transported in interstate commerce by any means, including by computer.

Count 2 charged that on February 22, 2005, in Richland County, McDONALD possessed material that contained an image of child pornography that had been mailed, or shipped or transported in interstate commerce by any means, including by computer.

Count 3 charged that from on July 15, 2001, to on or about February 22, 2005, in Richland County, McDONALD possessed a computer disk and any other material that contained an image of child pornography that had been mailed, or shipped or transported in interstate commerce by any means, including by computer.

Count 4 charged that on February 22, 2005, in Richland County, McDONALD destroyed evidence with the intent to impede, obstruct, and influence the investigation of a matter within the jurisdiction of the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

The investigation in this case was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Richland County Sheriff's Office.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney George A. Norwood.

The United States Attorney's Office, in conjunction with federal and state law enforcement authorities, is actively investigating and prosecuting individuals who produce, distribute, or possess child pornography.  Anyone with information concerning the use of the Internet for the purposes of trafficking in child pornography is encouraged to contact their local police department or the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
