DUQUOIN MAN RECEIVES TWENTY-FIVE YEAR SENTENCE

Randy G. Massey, Acting United States Attorney for the Southern District of Illinois, announced today that on April 28, 2006, STANLEY H. HAPPOLD, age 55 of DuQuoin, Illinois, was sentenced in the United States District Court in Benton, Illinois. HAPPOLD was sentenced to 300 months (25 years) imprisonment, was fined $100, and was placed on 3 years supervised release.

HAPPOLD had previously pleaded guilty to a two count federal indictment. Count 1 charged that from February 3, 2003 to March 10, 2003, in Perry County, HAPPOLD shipped in interstate commerce by use of a computer images of child pornography in violation of federal law.

Count 2 charged that on September 28, 2004, in Perry County, HAPPOLD possessed images of child pornography that have been mailed, shipped, or transported in interstate commerce by any means, including by computer, in violation of federal law.

The investigation in this case was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Carbondale Police Department, the Marion Police Department, the Southern Illinois University Police Department, the Perry County Sheriff’s Office, and the DuQuoin Police Department.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney George A. Norwood.

The United States Attorney’s Office, in conjunction with federal and state law enforcement authorities, is actively investigating and prosecuting individuals who produce, distribute, or possess child pornography. Anyone with information concerning the use of the Internet for the purposes of possessing, producing, or trafficking in child pornography is encouraged to contact their local police department or the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
